We are often asked, can you actually spread seed or fertiliser from a drone? The answer is “yes we can”

We can spread anything from seeds, fertilisers, pellets, feed or anything else that is granular, below is a bit more detail about what we can and cannot (yet) do…

Cover Crops & Other Seeds

We are able to spread any type of seeds from cover crops, catch crops or grass right through to OSR, Wildflower seeds or even tree seeds, all from the air.

Without the need to touch the ground below we are able to drop seeds into existing standing crops such as cereals, pulses or even maize. Without touching the ground we are also able to get seeds into ground after wet harvests that may have otherwise not been sown, all without compaction, ruts or mud on the road.

Fertiliser

We are able to spread all types of fertiliser from granular to liquid, all without touching the ground, no compaction, no ruts or mud on the road and the ability to get fertilisers on to crops when they need it, not when it’s fit to travel a heavy machine on.

We can also utilise variable rate application maps in our drones, this allows for reduced input usage and cost savings, and all whilst reducing the environmental impact of conventional farming

Pelleted Natural Products

As well as conventional inputs and standard granular materials we are also able to spread pelleted products like fungi pellets or pelleted biochar, as well as other products.

Given the ease of calibration for the drone it is easy to set up new products and be able to accurately spread them.

Again, most natural pelleted products need to be spread when the ground is wet so they break down over winter, this falls nicely into the drones role to avoid ground compaction or rutting.

Agricultural Drone Services

We offer drone based spreading and spraying of seeds, fertilisers, greenhouse shading agents and other non regulated granular or liquid products using our large agricultural drones across the UK.

Using drones for these tasks often increases application speed and productivity whilst eliminating the compaction that could be caused by ground based application methods.

This means applications can take place at the optimal time even if the ground is too soft for tractors or sprayers to travel.

Why Use A Drone For Spreading Or Spraying?

Drones are able to spread cover crop seeds into existing standing crops allowing a quicker start and continued ground cover after harvest, it also allows extra time for any overwinter grazing that may have been lost whilst waiting for crops to grow which would’ve usually been established after harvest of the main crop.

Our drones all use RTK positioning correction signals and GPS guidance to ensure highly accurate swaths and reduce overlap losses or misses.
